Death is inevitable. When a loved one dies and if you are the next of kin to make funeral and burial arrangements, the process can become overwhelming. The Abu Ubaydah Islamic Centre through it Janazah Support System will do everything possible to assist you, In Shaa Allaah.

At the hospital, the staff will take the necessary steps to ensure the correct procedure for death pronouncement. If death occurs at home, please call 9-1-1 immediately or the decease’s family doctor.

Currently, Abu Ubaydah collaborates with other Mosques in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to provide mortuary service, washing and shrouding of the body, and providing a wooden coffin as per Ontario Provincial Laws. 

Most Mosques which provide complete funeral services will have a team of volunteers, however you may need to provide some additional help (about three brothers or sisters depending on the sex of the deceased) for washing and shrouding the body. These additional helpers must be Muslim and preferably close relatives or close friends of the deceased.

Costs:

As of January 2021, the approximate total cost of burial in the GTA would be between $6000 and $8300 (all taxes included). The total cost will comprise of the following:

• Grave plot
• Opening and closing the grave
• Release of the body
• Transportation of the body
• Preparation of the body for burial
• Wooden coffin and Kafan (Cotton Shroud)
• Cold Storage, if necessary
• Registration of the death
• Securing burial permit
• Transportation to the Cemetery
• Full Burial 
• Provide Death Certificate to the next of kin
